Waltair Railway Stadium

ECoRSA has been one of the best sports management bodies in this country as it has proudly Hosted National events like National Boxing Championship 2017, National Weightlifting Championship 2018-19 and Ranji Trophy 2019-20 apart from various other state and regional level sporting tournaments. Waltair Railway Division has always given importance to Sports with our tagline “ Think SPORTS ,Think RAILWAYS, Think WALTAIR ”.

To achieve the objective, Division drew a master plan with the help of Dept. of Architecture, Andhra University in the year 2016 for development of all Sporting facilities within the available space.

As per the Master plan, courts for all the net games like Lawn Tennis, Ball badminton, Volley ball, Basket ball were shifted to the location where existing football court was situated creating additional courts for every sport. The Cricket ground was extended to 72m radius and was renovated with subsurface ground drainage, modern grassing and underground sprinkler facilities. The pitch and outfield was developed with the help of Curator and other technical personnel from VDCA AND ACA. The pavilions were modified with all the modern facilities of AC Seating, Wi-Fi, Modular Benches & Masseur tables and see through Glass Lounges for the home team, foreign team and VIP Box. An air conditioned fully equipped Sports dormitory, Weight lifting hall with an attached Gymnasium has also been developed inside the Cricket Stadium. All the Equipments and facilities were procured and planned as per BCCI standards and the Cricket Stadium is now getting ready to host First class cricket i.e. Ranji matches. The Stadium is renamed as WALTAIR RAILWAY STADIUM, Visakhapatnam. The Prominent Personalities of Cricket: West Indies Legend Alvin Kallicharan, Team India Coaches Ravi Sastri & Sanjay Bangar, Chief Selector MSK Prasad and other officials visited the stadium at its various stages of development. The existing 50 m Olympic size Swimming pool also got renovated and has become the most favourite swimming pool of Vizag.

The Old Badminton court was converted into a Boxing hall with modern facilities and was opened by Chairman Railway Board. The new Railway indoor Sports Enclave (RISE) is equipped with wooden flooring comprising of 10 Badminton courts, 6 Table Tennis courts and also space for Marshal arts Training . The Stadium walls are painted with a Sports theme based Graffiti and a beautiful park along with walking track near the stadium is also developed for the use of children, walkers and senior citizens.

The Renovation works of existing facilities and construction of new complex comprising of a wonderful Cricket Stadium with Flood lit Courts of Volleyball, Tennis(Synthetic & clay) , Ball Badminton , Basketball, Cricket Nets, Swimming Pool aided with a Gymnasium, Sports Conference hall & a Modern Sports Dormitory was completed in a record time of 10 months .

The erstwhile exhibition ground is has been converted into a full-fledged football stadium with an athletic track around it. Other Sports Facilities like Futsal court, skating ring and a squash court will get added soon.

Management of the Sporting facilities is done by a Registered Sports body with nominated members from Officers and Staff. To develop the spirit of “ KHELO India” Waltair Division has also started Waltair Railway Sports Academies (WARS) especially for Railway children and for the city of Visakhapatnam in the Sports of Tennis , Swimming , Badminton Boxing, Basketball & Volleyball for the benefit of beginners where the Professional Coaches Guided by veteran Sport Quota recruited players give coaching.
