Devipuram Vizag
Nestled amidst picturesque landscapes and imbued with a serene ambiance, Devipuram enjoys a prime location within Visakhapatnam city. Often hailed as a celestial abode on earth, Devipuram Temple offers a sanctuary for inner peace while nurturing physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
Dedicated to Goddess Sahasrakshi, believed to be an incarnation of Goddess Parvati, Devipuram Temple showcases remarkable architecture, highlighted by a three-dimensional Sri Chakra that is both distinctive and awe-inspiring.
Upon stepping into the temple complex, visitors are transported to a realm where theory merges seamlessly with practice, providing a rejuvenating escape from the bustling tourist spots of Visakhapatnam. It's a must-visit destination for those seeking profound experiences.
The history of Devipuram dates back to its establishment in 1994, steeped in a fascinating narrative. Dr. Nishtala Prahlada Sastry, a former nuclear scientist at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, embarked on the journey to construct the temple in 1983, following divine guidance.
Now revered as "Guruji" by countless devotees, Dr. Sastry envisioned the temple's architecture based on instructions received from the Divine Mother, embodying the Sri Chakra Meru. Each deity within the temple was meticulously sculpted to Guruji's specifications, reflecting divine visions.
The inception of Devipuram traces back to 1983 when Guruji, during a Devi Yagam, was approached by the Putrevu family, who generously donated three acres of land for the temple's construction. Guided by divine vision, Guruji commenced the temple's construction in 1985, culminating in its opening to the public in 1994.
Devoted to spreading religious and spiritual values globally, Guruji established the Sri Vidya Trust at Devipuram, initiating various programs focused on women empowerment, ancient wisdom, and cultural activities. Additionally, the trust undertakes rural development initiatives encompassing family planning, health, hygiene, and energy conservation.
There is no entry fee to visit Devipuram Temple, which welcomes visitors from 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM daily. The recommended exploration time is 2-3 hours.
Located approximately 30 km from Visakhapatnam, Devipuram is accessible via various modes of transportation. Travelers can opt for flights to Visakhapatnam International Airport or choose rail or road travel to reach Visakhapatnam, ensuring a convenient journey to this sacred destination.
