To educate on blood donation cyclist pedalled from Kolkata to kanyakumari
On July 1, Jaydeb Routh (47) and Sibli Bishara (22) started their journey from Kolkata to Kanyakumari on their cycles with a board along with a slogan ” Donate blood, save a life” tried to their cycles and they carried a blankets to sleep on and a plastic sheet to protect them from rain. By Tuesday evening the journey of the cyclist duo end at YMCA Youth Hostel, Jaydab Routh says that many people are dying because of lack of availability of blood at the time of emergency. What could be more honorable than educating people about blood donation. It is a simple step to save somebody’s life at the time of emergency, we are contributing our journey to this cause. He also said that Jadavpur Youth Adventure Welfare Association which is associated with the Indian Red Cross contributed its helping hand for our journey.
They explained that ” In 2016 as per the report released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare states that there is a shortage of 11.5 lakhs of units of blood in the country. In Bihar, there is 85 percent of the shortage of blood, coming to Delhi the number of percent of blood shortage is 233. West Bengal is also facing the problem of shortage of blood. The blood banks in West Bengal is having 20 units of blood shortage according to the norms.
To spread the awareness of blood donation Mr.Routh want to start an expedition. He meets Mr.bishara on his first nationwide cycle tour campaign for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and explained about his expedition on blood donation awareness and requested to join him in it. Mr. Bishara agreed to join with him in his expedition. They said that they completed their journey by covering 60-70 kms per day by stopping at government schools, youth hostel, temple or police station.
MDM Ibhrahim, secretary of YMCA Youth Hostel says that ” we were informed by Bhubaneswar youth hostel about the arrival of the duo cyclist and we introduced them to people who can help them in their journey financially.”
