City Police mooted proposal to make Beach Road one-way
Related to heavy traffic problems on the beach road, the city police planning to make it one-way. As per the proposal, the stretch from NTR Statue Junction to Park Hotel will be open for plying of vehicles traffic on the weekends and public holidays, while restriction will be imposed on the other side abutting the beach. At the present time, the expansion is a double with four lanes.
Anyway, the traffic police have made it clear that it’s just a proposal and a final decision will be taken only after electing the views of the citizens.
The traffic police are planning to make beach road a one-way extension, keeping in mind the heavy traffic problems associated with parking of visitors’ vehicles.
The proposal was introduced to facilitate a free movement for tourists and visitors on Beach Road, they noted.
The idea is to convert the beach side of the road into a parking space and the idea was mooted by Commissioner of Police Mahesh Chandra Laddha, said ACP (traffic) Kinjarapu Prabhakar.
‘WhatsApp, tweet views’
“It’s a proposal for now. We asked citizens to come up with their opinions and write to us at WhatsApp number 9493336633 or tweet @vizagcitypolice. The views can also be posted on the Facebook page: vizagcitypolice,” said ADCP (Traffic) M. Ramesh Kumar.
The ADCP told that people could enter Beach Road from the NTR Statue side and park their vehicles on the other side of the road.
Other than this, visitors also can approach Beach Road from the intersecting stretches such as Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC) down, YMCA or Andhra University High School road Pandurangapuram, and move to the other side of the road to park their vehicles.
“We will go ahead with the proposal if it’s confirmed by the people. The final decision will be taken only after the suggestions of the people are discussed by the Police Commissioner, in consultation with Collector Pravin Kumar and GVMC Commissioner M. Hari Narayanan and the other officers concerned,” added Mr. Prabhakar.
